John Kispert

John Kispert is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Spin Transfer Technologies. Kispert has held a number of executive and Board positions during his more than 20 years in the memory and semiconductor industries. Kispert was CEO of Spansion, Inc., where he guided the company through a period of significant sales growth and margin expansion, including the acquisition of a division of Fujitsu Microelectronics, to its eventual sale to Cypress Semiconductor in March 2015. Before that, Kispert spent 13 years at KLA-Tencor, including President, COO and CFO, and helped transform the semiconductor equipment company from $300 million to over $3 billion in annual revenues. Preceding his time at KLA-Tencor, Kispert held several management positions at IBM.

Kispert also served as an active Board member at a series of highly successful technology companies through their acquisitions or IPOs. These include Gigamon, Inc., a provider of network traffic visibility solutions, TriNet, a cloud-based professional employer organization for small and medium-sized businesses and Barracuda Networks, a security and storage solutions provider.


Tom Sparkman

Recently named Chief Executive Officer of Spin Transfer Technologies, Tom Sparkman has nearly 35 years of experience across medical, automotive, semiconductor and wireless technologies. His extensive leadership roles include CEO of Samplify Systems, a start-up delivering mixed-signal semiconductor and ultrasound solutions, where he raised over $25 million in capital. Additional career highlights include 19 years at various executive positions at Maxim Integrated Products, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales roles at Integrated Device Technology, and most recently, General Manager and Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales at Spansion, Inc., prior to its merger with Cypress Semiconductor. Mr. Sparkman holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.


Nelson Chan

Nelson Chan has a long track record of success in both the semiconductor and consumer electronics industries. His experience includes positions as Chief Executive Officer of Magellan, a leader in the GPS navigation and positioning market, as well as Executive Vice President and General Manager at SanDisk, the world’s largest supplier of branded flash data storage products. Mr. Chan holds a number of board positions, including Chairman of the Board of Directors of Outerwall, and is a member of the Board of Directors of Affymetrix, Deckers Brands and Synaptics. Mr. Chan is also a Director or Chairman of the Board of several privately held companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Santa Clara University.


Simon Davidson

Simon is an EVP at Allied Minds and is responsible for Allied Minds’ technology investments, including origination of new deals and oversight of existing portfolio companies.

Simon has 25 years’ experience in the technology sector and joins Allied Minds from In-Q-Tel, where he was a Managing Partner of the US-based strategic investor that identifies and partners with start-up companies that develop innovative technologies for the US intelligence community. In his ten years at In-Q-Tel, Simon oversaw both the East Coast investment team as well as co-leading the practice group focusing on the physical sciences within the business. He played a foundational role in the development of their investment strategy into the physical sciences, where he oversaw and led investments across multiple sectors, including space and air communications, autonomous drones, low power sensors, physical security and detection, and wireless infrastructure.

Simon began his career as a strategy consultant at Andersen Consulting and then as a technology banker at JP Morgan. He has held senior investment positions at JP Morgan Communication Partners and Fidelity Ventures, and business development roles at Sarvega, a venture-backed start-up and subsequently at Intel.


Pete Magowan

Pete Magowan has an extensive record of success leading the marketing, strategic sales and business development of global companies in the semiconductor industry. He led ARM Holdings plc, as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing and other positions, through its market entry into the mobile sector and also served as one of its main board members. Mr. Magowan has also served as General Partner at Alta Berkeley Venture Partners, a European early stage venture capital firm, as well as Head of Moonray Energy, a private investment vehicle for Fidelity International Ltd. Since leaving ARM, Mr. Magowan has invested in or been a board member of 12 technology boards and overseen multiple fundraising efforts, IPOs and trade sales. Currently, he serves on the advisory boards of the venture funds of Queens University Belfast and the University of Ulster and is the Chairman of Amantys Ltd. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology and a Diploma in Marketing from the University of Bristol Business School.


Joe Pignato

Joe Pignato is the CFO of Allied Minds. Prior to joining Allied Minds, Joe was the CFO of Swipely, Inc. During his ten years in the venture capital industry, he served as General Partner, COO and CFO of two separate early stage venture firms – Charles River Ventures and Prism Ventures. Early in his career Joe served in various senior financial roles including CFO at Lightbridge, Inc., a publicly traded software company. Joe started his career in public accounting at Deloitte. Joe is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.


Jill Smith

Jill is the President and CEO of Allied Minds. Jill brings more than 25 years of experience as an international business leader, including 16 years as CEO of private and public companies in the technology and information services markets.

Most recently, Smith served as Chairman, CEO and President of DigitalGlobe Inc. (NYSE: DGI), a global provider of satellite imagery products and services. Smith started her career as a consultant at Bain & Company, where she rose to become Partner. She subsequently joined Sara Lee as Vice President, and went on to serve as President and CEO of eDial, a VoIP collaboration company, and of SRDS, a business-to-business publishing firm. She also served as Chief Operating Officer of Micron Electronics, and co-founded Treacy & Company, a consulting and boutique investment business.

She currently serves as an independent director on the boards of Endo International plc (NASDAQ: ENDP) and Hexagon (Nasdaq Stockholm: HEXA B).
